2. Monster Island – David Wellington
The first in David Wellington’s zombie trilogy. He definitely has some interesting twists for the concept of the zombie. And Gary. Crazy, crazy Gary. Monster Island is really straightforward as far as zombie tales go (there’s a band of survivors, there’s a mission that involves a city and supplies, and at least one of the survivors really knows how to handle a weapon) and Wellington kept it fresh and engaging the whole way through with his twists on what a zombie can be. As fresh as a tale about the undead can be I guess. It probably smells funny. But it doesn’t let down its female characters.
